LOS ANGELES (AP) - It may be the longest, strangest trip the Grateful Dead's music has endured - a performance by a symphony orchestra under the baton of a classical composer.
But to Lee Johnson, the guy with the baton, the real surprise is that his world of high culture took as long as it did to embrace the world of counterculture for which the Grateful Dead provided so much of the soundtrack.

The one-hour recording is an audio history featuring former Grateful Dead manager Scully telling it like it really was, from the Be-ins and Acid-Tests to Monterey Pop, The Summer Of Love, The Dead, The Who, The Stones, The Beatles, Janis and Jimi. The package includes unreleased photos and rare memorabilia.
The release of "The Summer Of Love Oral Archive by Rock Scully" is set to coincide with "The Summer Of Love 40th Anniversary Concert" in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park on September 2, 2007. The archive recording was executive produced by Rock Scully and David Bean, who are also involved with the anniversary concert. The recording has been licensed for distribution in Britain and Europe by Voiceprint Records.
